Edison and Ford Winter estates were built based on the visitations of historic figures Thomas Edison and Henry Ford as they spent their winter time vacations in Fort Myers. Edison upon arrival enjoyed the area so much, he purchased land, created a laboratory, houses and many gardens for his vacation destination; the estate was later named the “Seminole Lodge.”
Ford’s friendship with Edison inspired him to purchase property right next to the Seminole lodge. Ford’s estate, The Mangoes, included lush grounds brimming with citrus on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River.
