The Green Cay Nature Center is offering a free Ethnobotany guided tour. Ethnobotany is the study of the relationship between people and plants. This tour is designed to connect and bring a greater understanding between people and their green space. It will also include history on the indigenous Pre-Coloumbian natives of the glades living out in nature.

Planets that are native to the Green Cay Native wetlands:

  • Arrowhead: Its large leaves and conspicuous flowers make it easy to find in the wild. It grows commonly in swamps, ditches, lakes, and stream margins.

  • Pickerelweed: Pickerelweed typically grows to about 2 or 3 feet tall. Its leaves are large (up to 5 inches wide) and are usually twice as long. Leaf shapes are variable, but are usually lance-shaped. They may have either a distinctly heart-shaped face or a rounded face.

Green Cay Nature Center is operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located at 12800 Hagen Ranch Road, west of Boynton Beach. For more information on Green Cay Nature Center and other county-operated nature centers, visit discover.pbc.gov.
